Meat-Shields and Manipulators by Harold K. (HK) Hayward For more background on frauds Steven Hatfield and Bret Gordon, see Gerald J.'s article - Humor Me If You Will. Bryce Dallas, though laughable at first glance, ran what eventually became a global criminal organization, while Steven Hatfield is behind a group of organizations which are, at their core, criminal enterprises on a smaller scale. This article will explore the similarities and the differences between Bryce Dallas and Steven Hatfield, between Dallas' Konigun Ninjutsu and Hatfield's Ohio-based syndicate, between the “Goon Squad” and Bret Gordon. Part One: Front Men Bryce Dallas kept himself well-insulated behind a virtual wall of bodies, collectively referred to by Cayce Lancaster as the “Goon Squad”. Dallas would bind this inner circle of the most gullible and malleable of his students to him by convincing them to commit seemingly minor infractions in the beginning, and slowly building to larger and larger atrocities as time went by. In this way, he could blackmail them into remaining under his thrall, many of them completely against their will, desperately seeking a way out, which they eventually received in the revelation of evidence proving that Dallas had lied about the very foundation of his “ninjutsu”. Dallas had become, essentially, a cult leader. The high school photographs which proved Dallas had lied about training with a Japanese master over a period of nine years allowed many of them to break his hold and escape the abuses they had endured for far too long. A very similar situation has unfolded in regards to Steven Hatfield, in the revelation that his step-father was in prison during the period in which he was allegedly teaching Hatfield his trio of foundational arts. This thorough discrediting of his fraudulent claims has provided an opportunity for Hatfield's students and associates to escape if they so wish. Steven Hatfield has only one front man serving as an easily-identifiable bulwark between him and public resentment, and possible legal recourse. Bret Gordon has been left dangling by Hatfield, taking the brunt of the criticisms leveled against them both, and against their many sham organizations and their dubious associates. What kind of “sensei” hides behind his student, allowing them to be their meat-shield while they sit back and chuckle from a safe distance? The Steven Hatfield kind, of course. Part Two: The Insei-Yutashi Propaganda Project When Bryce Dallas began teaching Konigun “Karate”, as it was initially called, he claimed that he had learned the art from an American man named Jim Crenshaw (or somesuch) who had learned the art while living in Japan. Initially he gave no name for this fictitious Japanese master, nor did he claim to be its current grandmaster. After getting his ass kicked in front of all his students and run out of town by Isshin Ryu karate black belt Roger Williams, Dallas dropped off the radar for a while, re-emerging years later having re-branded and re-tooled his fictional art. Dallas had restructured and consolidated before expanding, having changed Konigun “Karate” to Konigun “Ninjutsu”, proclaiming himself as the current grandmaster after having trained for nine years in Japan under the previous grandmaster, Insei Saija. Never mind that Dallas couldn't seem to spell his alleged master's name correctly, at times spelling his name as Ensai or Enshi, and finally settling upon the name-that-is-not-a-name of Insei. Steven Hatfield seems to have had the same problem when beginning his childish fantasies, and he has been stupid enough to reference people who are still alive and can give testimony against his fraudulent claims. Initially he claimed to be taught by his “father” John Paul, referred to as J.P. in his 2012 bio. As time went on, Hatfield changed the lies he was telling in an attempt to spin a more believable fairy tale. Giving no explanation for the substitution, he completely replaced J.P. with William Sirbaugh as his father for a time, until finally settling upon the verifiable truth of William Sirbaugh being his step-father. Part Three: The House of Sharts Dallas claimed only loose connections to other fraudulent associations that he could use to make himself seem more credible, mostly preferring to keep to his own little network of schools.
Steven Hatfield claims, as of this publishing, to be teaching, along with James Parrish and Bill Cromer, the following: Ryu Saiichi Do Karate founded by H in 1999 (no rank listed) Wae Kune Do karate founded by Clarence West in 1969 (no rank listed) Meibukan Goju Ryu karate (no rank listed) http://www.thetechniciandojo.com/karate.html Yudo/Judo in Jack “Papasan” Stern's lineage (total fraud, bread truck driver, found guilty of Stolen Valor in 1996) (no rank listed) Koji Jujutsu founded by H in 2015 (no rank listed) Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu (no rank listed) http://www.thetechniciandojo.com/grappling.html Aikido founded by Morihei Ueshiba Tenshi Akuma Do Aiki Jiujitsu founded by H in 2008 http://www.thetechniciandojo.com/aiki-arts.html These are some of the sham organizations created by Steven Hatfield and Bret Gordon to issue each other STDs (Socially Transmitted Diplomas) for seemingly authentic “recognition” or “certification”, in order to bolster their facade of supposed legitimacy. Some are affiliated with legitimate organizations, most likely obtained through fraudulent means.: Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei Yoshinkai (American Yoshinkan Aiki Jiujitsu) Kokusai Nihon Bugei Rengokai American Jidokwan Association US Association of Martial Arts Law Enforcement Tactical Training Institute International San Budo Federation Ryu Sakura Do Karate Federation Kontei Judo Club U.S. Traditional Kodokan Judo Association As you can see, these sham organizations are quite numerous, and this may not be all of them. Compare the above, current claims with what Hatfield was claiming when he was a member of the BDFS. (Yes, THAT BDFS.) Styles and Rank/Awards achieved P.H.D in Martial Science From the International School Of Martial Science (no accredited university on this planet offers a Ph.D. in any form of martial art)
Back to our main attraction: Steven Hatfield actively and openly commits fraud, while Bryce Dallas gradually faded into the background after establishing his wall of front men. Dallas would seek out those he could bend to his will who already had either some experience in legitimate martial arts, or those who were competent fighters, preferably those whom he suspected would be more willing to commit criminal acts. After putting these individuals through an accelerated training program, and most of the time promoting them far beyond their actual abilities, he would place them in teaching positions, sometimes setting them up in their own schools or training groups. That way, he could have others committing fraud for him, albeit usually unwittingly on their part. Steven Hatfield, on the other hand, has placed himself at the forefront of his own school, where he is featured as the “owner and chief instructor”. Bryce Dallas expanded his criminal activities outside the sphere of martial arts, while Steven Hatfield has built his criminal organization wholly within that sphere (so far as we know). Bryce Dallas also ran a fraudulent construction business, along with his partner-in-crime, Jay Green. The full extent of this construction business fraud is unknown. As an interesting aside, there is a blurb on the Technician Dojo's website regarding their three main instructors which states: “All 3 Main Instructors Were Featured In the 2018 "AMAA Who's Who in the Martial Arts" And were recipients of the "Who's Who Legends Award!" “ This is interesting because . . . well . . . let's save that for another time. Even after more than 16 years of inquiry, the surface of Bryce Dallas' non-martial arts-related criminal activity has barely been scratched. It is known that Bryce Dallas and some of his students were engaged in: Assault and Battery Attempted Murder Burglary Conspiracy Counterfeiting Defamation Fraud Libel Racketeering Rape Slander Theft Trespass and, even though it is yet unproved, if the preponderance of evidence and testimony is correct, Bryce Dallas murdered his own father. Compared to this laundry list of criminal activity, Steven Hatfield is a relative lightweight, having only committed fraud. At least, so far as is known.
Part Four: Yellow-Bellied Bastards – or – Behind the Meat Shield Both Bryce Dallas and Steven Hatfield are ultimately cowards who would not, and will not, come forward to publicly provide evidence of their claims preferring instead to revise their lies when exposed, and try to defame their detractors instead of debate the real issues. Issues which arise due to their own actions. Frauds place themselves in the public domain when they make their claims in a public forum. Public scrutiny is a natural result, yet frauds claim people are somehow acting “dishonorably” by merely asking questions. This is a common tactic of frauds – being unable to provide credible evidence for their claims, they instead engage in ad hominem attacks against anyone and everyone who would DARE to question the integrity of shidoshi/grandmaster/anshu/kaiso/renshi/hanshi/sensei/gezundheit.
